Not too take away anything from the other great players JMU has on their roster, but you cannot miss how good of a player Precious "P" Hall is becoming. This is a freshman, a two-time CAA rookie of the week, and a player that just seems to get better and better with each game. Hall who lit it up in the 2nd half was able to hit three 3-pointers at the beginning of the second half to help the Dukes break open the game. She deserves some big time props tonight. Hall had 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 of the 12 team steals. If you are not on the Precious "P" Hall bandwagon, you may want to get on for the ride.
We shouldn't forget Kirby Burkholder. She was also instrumental in getting the Dukes going. At the end of the first half. Kirby would hit a heavily contested 3-point shot that would put the Dukes ahead for good. Kirby was 4-5 from the 3-point, mainly in the first half. She finished the game with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Congratulations to Kirby Burkholder for passing Tamera Young's 3-point total.
The first half was nothing to be proud of, in fact, JMU was being out-rebounded. It just didn't seem like the Dukes could get anything going and if it wasn't for the many George Mason turnovers and a stout JMU defense, JMU would probably be looking at a deficit. Instead, because mainly of Burkholder's timely shots and Hall's steals, JMU finished the half up 28-24.
The second half started fast a furious and it was in these defining minutes where JMU would jump to a 24 point lead. For the first 7 minutes of half, JMU used a 24-4 run to extend their lead to 50-28. From there the team started to get a little sloppy and would allow Mason to get back within 14 points. Ultimately, JMU would win this game 71-55.
Hofstra is going to be a good game. Both have a tendency to start off slow and both teams are 5-1. The game is also regionally televised on Comcast. Be there if you can and make the convo loud! Game starts at 5:30PM Sunday.
